PING golf started as a garage business by company Karsten Solheim started Ping as a business run out of his garage in 1959. His first major product was the classic putter "PING 1A". In 1962, John Barnum became the first person to win a PGA Tour while using a PING club at the Cajun Classic Open Invitational.
The Anser was the most influential putter in golf and set the standard for what is considered to be the "conventional" putter. Pings were so well built that in 1966 the PGA banned all Ping clubs from PGA play except for the Anser. They thought that the design of the clubs gave players an advantage when playing.
